Professor Shahriyārī was the Director of Graduate Studies for a while. I was in a situation where I needed to work in addition to carrying out my studies. I told Professor Shahriyārī that I was not in a good situation financially, and asked him if it was possible to arrange my coursework schedule in such a way as to allow me to work at the same time. I remember Professor Shahriyārī being preoccupied with this matter for several days. Until then, I really had not seen the director of a group or even an ordinary professor spend so much time on a student and to want to arrange his schedule to fit the needs of a student.
