In the seven or eight years that I knew Professor Shahriyārī, I never knew him to own more than two pairs of pants and two jackets and one sports jacket. One year he had been selected as the exemplary researcher and he was to receive a prize. The day before the ceremony I pleaded with him to be sure to wear a suit to the ceremony. He showed up the following morning saying, “Here you are! A suit!” But his jacket was one color and his pants were of another color! As a rule, we judge people by the clothes they wear, but Professor Shahriyārī was not like that.
