For some reason or another, one of our friends could not make it to class for two or three semesters and was on the verge of being expelled. The university administration accept him after much effort and with great difficulty. Professor Shahriyārī spent so much time on his case and went back and forth with the administration so much that they eventually relented and let him back to class on the condition that his grades be monitored and a good average be maintained. Later on, when this student was defending his thesis, his parents brought Professor Shahriyārī some flowers, even though he was not their son’s thesis supervisor.
