Professor Shahriyārī had a really old cell phone. We asked him what this phone was that he was using… He said that it works, so why should I replace it. His glasses were of the heavy-framed [old-fashioned] type. We told him to change it out to a lighter frame. He said it is working so well! Why should I change it?? Someone who reads this last part would be forgiven for thinking that the professor was a miser. But the truth is that he was very openhanded and magnanimous. He would give large sums as loans to people, and at times as donations. I know of many such instances from firsthand experience.
