Seldom did I see him telling people what to do and what not to do. He usually did not get things done verbally but did so by way of example, which is the best motivator. Whenever we went to the mosque to offer our devotions we would ask Professor Shahriyārī to lead us in our ritual devotions. But he would say, “Find out who arrived here before everyone else and defer to him as the prayer leader.” Whenever we went somewhere, especially if it was outside Tehran, we were very concerned about Professor Shahriyārī’s security, but he insisted that we not take things to extremes. He would say that if it was something that was meant to happen, nothing could prevent it.
