One of the things which distinguished Shahīd Shahriyārī was his being very well-read in the basic texts of the Islamic sciences. He had bought the whole series of [Allāme Tabātabāī’s] al-Mīzān Qoranic commentary and exegesis, and would study it in earnest. We liked to study it also, but did not do so. The one who actually spent the time to really study the various volumes of the al-Mīzān commentary in addition to his technical studies and pondered the depths of the Qoran’s meaning was Shahīd Shahriyārī.
