was very active in the month of Moharram. He would say that we must increase our religious outreach [during this month] and keep [the memories and significance of] Moharram alive in this way. The paintings and banners which have been affixed to the walls of the Department are the work of Professor Shahriyārī. Some of the students would complain that a university is no place for such displays [of religiosity], but he would respond by saying that we must insure [the prosperity of] the university by grafting it with the Ahl al-Bayt . He would usually advise us that if we were confronted with a problem, to offer two cycles of the ritual devotions and supplicate one of the Twelve Imams for their help in solving the problem. He would assure us that our problem would be resolved. He believed strongly in this remedy by ritual supplication.
